Practice Plus: Lessons from the Field

Practice Plus: Lessons from the Field

Semann & Slattery has been in the business of supporting quality in early childhood program for close to 20 years and we have learnt a lot about what makes for quality and how centres can make a difference. As a leading consulting, research and professional development provider it is timely that we share the lessons from the field that will support you and your team become better at what you do.

This full day workshop has specifically been developed based on the overwhelming success of our Practice Plus program (where we support teams and educators in their settings). Our Practice Plus experience has exposed us to the numerous conversations and discussions that occur within teams, with some hot topics re-occurring much more often than others. This workshop covers, what in our experience is the three most commonly discussed topics within teams:

  • the planning-cycle
  • unpacking intentional teaching
  • relationships

The day will be filled with lively but considered discussion around documentation, intentional teaching, emotional intelligence, effective communication and collaborative approaches to curriculum development. Each discussion topic will encourage you to question your knowledge and daily practice. This workshop is ideal for educators or teams who are wanting to re-connect with quality outcomes, or anyone who generally enjoys finding out about the ‘why’ behind what we are doing in our everyday practices.

Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Identity who we document for, what we are meant to be documenting, and what we do with all of this documentation to ensure we support the planning cycle and make children’s learning visible
  • Describe the ‘why’ behind our teaching techniques and what intentionality looks like
  • Apply out understanding of the importance of our engagement and intentionality with our practices to create beautiful learning environments and working collaboratively with families
  • Articulate the impact of relationships on the quality of our work with each other and children
