The Toddler Series: More than Tantrums and Toileting (3 Part Session) Session One

The Toddler Series: More than Tantrums and Toileting (3 Part Session) Session One

Description

You thought this would never happen but here it is, a special three-part series for those who work with toddlers. These busy humans who are eager to explore and learn from everything and everyone. A room with children who are 2 to 3 years of age is a busy room, and this busyness sometimes means we don’t take the time to stop and reflect on what we do. Now is your chance. It’s your chance to learn alongside other educators who work with toddlers and to explore some of the pressing issues you face each day in your work.

In each of these sessions we will be focusing on a particular area of practice. You can choose to come to the series of three sessions or individual sessions.

SESSION 1 – LIVING AND LEARNING IN SPACES THAT INSPIRE, SURPRISE AND DELIGHT: SPACES AND ENVIRONMENTS FOR TODDLERS

Toddlers are busy humans who are eager to learn and eager to get their hands into resources and spaces. Spaces for toddlers begin to reflect their growing independence and in doing so should promote inquiry and wonder. Where do we begin in creating these spaces? A shift in mindsets is required here. Toddlers do not need some of the key elements that infants require, they need new opportunities for learning and some new resources… resources that they haven’t been exposed to before. Beyond resources we also need to think about how we set up the spaces for learning.

In this workshop, we will be exploring:

  • How to set up beautiful indoor and outdoor environments for toddlers
  • Examine resources that promote thinking and challenges
  • Explore the relationship between the environment and teaching and learning

Upon completion of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • List environmental considerations and resources that encourage thinking and problem solving in toddlers
  • Set up an indoor and outdoor environment for toddlers that incorporates these factors
  • Describe how the indoor and outdoor environment enhances teaching and learning for toddlers
