The Toddler Series: More than Tantrums and Toileting (3 Part Session) Session Three

SESSION 3 - THE AMAZING AND INTERESTING WORLDS OF 2-3 YEAR OLDS: CURRICULUM AND DOCUMENTATION

Description

Session 3 -  The amazing and interesting worlds of the 2-3 year olds: curriculum and documentation

Does a curriculum for toddlers actually exist? How might we begin to plan and document the amazing and interesting worlds of children 2 to 3 years of age. Is there a role for the EYLF when it comes to planning?

We can sit back and marvel at the ways in which toddlers are eagerly exploring their worlds but can we pre-plan learning for toddlers, if so, how do we capture their unique experiences? In this session we will debate, unravel and explore how educators working with toddlers can create a curriculum which meets the needs of toddlers and provides scope for amazing documentation.

We will explore:

  • Planning for toddler’s learning
  • The role of documentation and how to capture the learning and thinking that takes place
  • How educators can engage the minds, theories and investigations of toddlers as part of a planning, teaching and learning cycle

Upon completion of this workshop, you will be able to :

  • Identify key planning considerations for working with toddlers within the ongoing cycle that includes documenting and evaluating children’s learning
  • Describe the purpose and function of documentation with a specific focus on toddlers
  • Describe what a thoughtful and deliberate curriculum for toddlers looks like
  • Discuss and plan with our colleagues a thoughtful and deliberate curriculum for toddlers
