Understanding the reflective practice cycle and how it drives everyday excellence APST 3: Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning Presented by Philip Butler
Description
This webinar will provide an overview of the reflective practice cycle, including critical reflections and their role in driving quality and continuous improvement. Being a reflective practitioner involves two key components. First, we must be openly, honestly and continuously willing to ask ourselves and our team the hard questions: ’Is this the best we can do?’ and’ What opportunities might arise from doing it differently?’ Second, we must be ready to seek out the answers. Simply writing words on paper without action is merely keeping a diary. Genuine reflective practice entails writing reflections, sharing them, discussing them, researching them, and taking action based on them; this constitutes the reflective practice cycle. This approach naturally aligns with your existing planning cycle and continuous improvement strategies. We will examine and discuss a variety of reflective practice strategies and learn how to utilise these practices to foster continuous improvement not only on an individual level but also across the entire centre.
Learning goals:
- clarity in understanding between reflective practices and critical reflections
- build knowledge on how to communicate your ideas more effectively
- know what to document and what not to document in the reflective practice cycle
– Documenting the planning cycle and reflective practices will contribute 2 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and Assessment of NSW Curriculum/EYLF addressing standard descriptor 3.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
Completing Making It Visible: Understanding the reflective practice cycle and how it drives everyday excellence will contribute one hour of PD that aligns with the NESA (NSW) criteria for Elective PD in the priority area of Delivery and Assessment of NSW Curriculum/EYLF addressing standard descriptor 3.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
