Spontaneous moments, intentional responses

Presented by David Gilkes

Description

The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia highlights ‘Responsiveness to Children’ as one of its key Practice components. It emphasises the need for educators to respond to spontaneous ‘teachable moments’ in order to scaffold children’s learning. Responding to moments of spontaneity in our settings can certainly be both engaging and empowering for children but also, at times, somewhat challenging. How do we ensure that these moments are not only noticed but also responded to with authenticity and intentionality? What are the many possibilities that might emerge from them and are we prepared to ‘let go’ of our predetermined plans to follow them in ways that go beyond tokenistic or simplistic responses? Can we bring a new lens to routines and interactions to see the possibilities that might exist within them for rich learning? This webinar will support us to embrace spontaneous moments, in both the everyday and the unexpected, as gifts and opportunities for teaching and learning.

Completing Spontaneous moments, intentional responses contributes one hour of PD that aligns with the NESA (NSW) criteria for Elective PD and addresses:
