The Possibilities of Loose Parts

Description

“When children interact with loose parts, they enter a world of ‘what if’ that promotes the type of thinking that leads to problem solving and theoretical reasoning. Loose parts enhance children’s ability to think imaginatively and see solutions, and they bring a sense of adventure and excitement to children’s play.”  (Daly and Beloglovsky, 2015)

This online webinar will enter the world of what if …

What if..

  • there is intentionality with the materials that we propose to children to create meaningful and generative opportunities for learning
  • a systematic approach supports the presentation and organisation of materials to encourage agentic engagement
  • teachers are attuned and reflective to the nuances of the learning processes of children as they build relationships with materials
  • the chosen materials are considered from an ethical and sustainable perspective

Participants will:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the role of the environment in creating meaningful and generative opportunities for learning
  • Build on their knowledge of how to introduce materials to children successfully to encourage participation and a deep level engagement
  • Be inspired to think differently about the role of materials in learning

Completing The Possibilities of Loose Parts will contribute one hour of PD that aligns with the NESA (NSW) criteria for Elective PD and addresses:

The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers: APST 3: Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning

The Early Years Learning Framework Learning Outcomes: Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners

The National Quality Standard: QA 1: Educational program and practice
