Mathematical Moments

Presented by David Gilkes

Description

Far more than just numbers and counting, the opportunities for young children to connect meaningfully with mathematics can be found in the richness of the everyday. The potential for growing children’s mathematical understandings exists in the normality and beauty of both planned and unplanned moments. As educators, how do we intentionally curate and design mathematical investigations that are responsive to children’s questions and theories, to their play, to the environments and contexts that we work within, to the children’s desire to express their thinking in a multiplicity of ways, and to our knowledge of what each child requires from us in regard to both listening and scaffolding? This webinar will share stories from magical mathematical moments in practice.

Completing Mathematical Moments mayl contribute one hour of PD that aligns with the NESA (NSW) criteria for Elective PD and addresses:

The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers: APST 3: Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning

The Early Years Learning Framework Learning Outcomes: Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators

The National Quality Standard: QA 1: Educational program and practice
