Rethinking ‘group times’ as contexts for learning and launchpads for inquiry Part 2

Presented by Stephen Gallen Rethinking Group Time Part 2 encourages us to reimagine the humble group time as something inspiring and profound.

Description

Rethinking Group Time Part 1 explored new possibilities for reconceptualising ‘group time’.  In this session, we will take a deeper dive and consider how our image of ‘group time’ is closely linked to our image of the child, the educator, and the early childhood setting.

When we critically reflect on our underlying assumptions and taken-for-granted practices, what transformational possibilities might open up?  We will think about big-picture issues like group time as radical democracy, as participation, and as revolutionary.  Alongside this we’ll also zoom in on some of the protocols, processes and practical strategies that might sit alongside these ideas to help us rethink and reimagine the humble group time as something inspiring and profound.

Completing Rethinking ‘group times’ as contexts for learning and launchpads for inquiry Part 2 may contribute one hour of PD that aligns with the NESA (NSW) criteria for Elective PD and addresses:

The Australian Professionals Standards for Teachers: APST 3: Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning

Early Years Learning Framework Learning Outcomes: Outcome 2: Children are connected and contribute to their world

The National Quality Standard: QA 1: Educational program and practice
