Empowering Children – Why self belief is key to their learning

In this webinar, we will explore how children’s outcomes are not predetermined by their genes, it’s not about learning alphabets, numbers or colours, it’s about being in a safe, loving and interactive environment that supports a positive view of one's gender, culture and view of self as a learner APST 3: Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning Presented by Jenna Close

Description

The purpose of education is not simply the transaction of knowledge but the construction of identities that will serve children positively throughout their learning journey. In contrast to common beliefs, children’s outcomes are not predetermined by their genes, and it’s not about learning alphabets, numbers or colours. It’s about being in a safe, loving and interactive environment that supports a positive view of one's gender, culture and view of self as a learner.

Early childhood is a period of momentous significance for all people growing up in our culture ... By the time this period is over, children will have formed conceptions of themselves as social beings, as thinkers, and as language users, and they will have reached certain important decisions about their own abilities and their own worth. Donaldson. Grieve & Pratt (1983)

The conversations and language we use when we identify learning can help children and adults build learning power and ultimately succeed.
