Stop worrying about the routine on the wall and start focusing on where all the action is down on the floor. This workshop is aimed at developing not only the skills but, more importantly, the intent of educators working with the youngest children in our educational settings. You will be challenged to examine your beliefs and expectations around what matters, and how you can achieve high level program outcomes through meaningful engagement and trusting relationships with not only the children, but also with each other and with families.

 Over the day we will unpack:

  • What it means to be an early childhood educator in the 21st century, and what this means for practice
  • How the image of infants and toddlers as learners influences educator practice
  • The critical components of a responsive an educational setting for infants and toddlers
  • What the infant and toddler learning curriculum looks like
  • Approaches to documenting and communicating learning
  • The impact educators have on a child’s development through life changing bonds and interactions

 Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify the skill sets that determines a 21st century educator and the implications of this for their practice
  • Articulate their image of infants and toddlers and discuss the influence of this on their pedagogy
  • Critique the components of quality in an infant/toddler program in order to design and document a learning curriculum for infants and toddlers
  • Develop a program that is responsive and adaptive to the individual needs of the infants
  • Use intentional teaching as a foundation for building significant relations with children

NSW: Completing this course – Birth to Three will contribute 6 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing: APTS 6.4.2 & 7.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW
