Description

Do you wonder about your intentional teaching and what it really is? Have you ever wondered how to record your intentional teaching? Is it a moment or an all of the time affair? These questions are important to the educator who wants to understand what intentional teaching might mean for them. In this workshop, we will pull apart and co-construct our knowledge of what intentional teaching is, what it means for educators’ every day practice and how it can be documented.

During the workshop, we will:

  • Define intentional teaching and how it is woven into the National Quality Framework
  • Explore the different theories underpinning intentional teaching strategies and techniques
  • Identify relevant strategies to develop children’s knowledge, skills, problem solving, critical and creative thinking
  • Recognise what intentional teaching looks like in all learning spaces and throughout the structure of the day
  • Investigate using children’s feedback to evaluate their own learning and inform future planning
  • Review the essential components critical thinking educators need to effectively document intentional teaching
  • Develop a knowledge base around assessment and the ongoing cycle of planning

Upon completion of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Define intentional teaching and describe what this looks like within the context of an early childhood setting
  • List a range of strategies that support an intentional approach to teaching and learning
  • Apply an intentional approach when planning environments and organising the structure of the day
  • Describe different approaches to assessing children’s learning and development to inform future planning
  • Articulate your purpose and intentions when planning for children as individuals and within a group
