Description

Have you ever wondered what it means to help children succeed? Do you have some children in your centre who when things don’t go their way lack the skills or knowledge of how to deal with this challenge successfully?

Wellbeing includes: good physical health, feelings of happiness, satisfaction and successful social functioning. It influences the way children interact with their environments and with others. A strong sense of wellbeing provides children with confidence and optimism, which maximise their learning potential. It encourages the development of children’s innate exploratory drive, sense of agency and desire to interact with responsive others.

Wellbeing is correlated with resilience, providing children with the capacity to cope with day to day stress and challenges. The readiness to persevere when faced with unfamiliar and challenging learning situations creates the opportunity for success and achievement (EYLF pp.30).

Over the day we will unpack:

  • Defining well-being and resilience
  • Interests, strengths and challenges and the relationship to learning dispositions
  • Healthy relationships with people and nature
  • Flow and motivation
  • Resilience and struggle
  • Having a purpose: setting goals with children
  • Accomplishment - evaluating goals and realising potential

Upon completion of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Create learning programs for children which enhance wellbeing and resilience
  • Plan to extend children’s interests, strengths and learning dispositions through challenges within their pedagogy
  • Use flow, motivation and purpose to increase children’s engagement in learning
  • Set goals for learning with children to increase accomplishment of those goals
