Process vs product – what matters most? Illuminating how children learn

PRESENTER: KIRSTEN LILJEGREN

This webinar disrupts the binary mindset of process and product by looking at how both are valuable as part of children’s learning. There is a but… when we only value the product, this is where limitations come in. So, what gets in the way?

Paying attention to how children learn is a critical part of teaching practice, but learning is complex, and so this is no easy task! This webinar highlights possibilities to look for as we navigate the vital art of analysing children’s learning to inform our understanding of children and planning for the possible. We will unpack examples from practice to leave you with practical strategies to utilise in your setting.

There will be a focus on:

  • Familiarisation with the process of learning
  • Connecting with how we see children as curious inquirers, seeking to make meaning of the world around them
  • The importance of understanding the role of children learning as a group- social constructivism
  • How we can document the learning process to get closer to children’s ideas, rather than a superficial focus on interests
  • The role of the product in children’s learning, seeing this in new ways

Completing Process vs product – what matters most? Illuminating how children learn will contribute one hour of PD addressing the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and aligns with the NESA criteria for Elective PD.

NESA Elective PD:

  • Linked to clear and relevant goals that are related to improving student/child outcomes
